Plymouth is one of the few places in Metro Detroit where you can park once and spend the entire day on foot. Kellogg Park sits right in the middle of downtown, and everything radiates out from there — coffee in the morning, dinner in the evening, the farmers market on Saturday. It is the single biggest reason people who move here tend to stay.
One distinction is easy to miss: there is Plymouth the city, and there is Plymouth Township, and they are two different municipalities that share a name. The city is the older, tighter, walkable part built around the downtown grid. The township is larger and more spread out, with newer neighborhoods and bigger lots. Both are genuinely good places to live. But taxes, lot size, and how close you actually are to downtown can differ quite a bit, and it is worth knowing which one an address sits in before settling on a house.
The housing mix reflects that split. You will find restored century-old homes in Old Village and around the downtown streets, and newer subdivisions as you move outward. Plymouth-Canton Community Schools serve the area. And every winter the whole downtown fills up for the Ice Festival, which brings the streets to life and, briefly, fills every parking space in town.
They share a name but not a tax bill, a lot size, or a walk to Kellogg Park. It is worth confirming which one an address sits in early on.
Restaurants, shops, the park, and events most weekends of the year. If walkability is what you are after, this is where you will find it.
Around the downtown and Old Village you are often looking at century-old houses. Wonderful, but worth a careful inspection and a realistic renovation budget.
