What it's actually like to live here
Farmington Hills is big — one of the largest cities in Oakland County by area — and that size means it does not have a single character. Neighborhoods vary considerably from one end to the other in age, price and style, so treating it as one market rarely works.
What it does have, more than almost anywhere nearby, is good mid-century and seventies housing on wooded lots with mature trees. Split levels, low-slung ranches, the occasional contemporary. If that era of architecture appeals to you, this is one of the better places to look in Metro Detroit.
The walkable village feel lives next door in downtown Farmington — the farmers market, the Civic Theater, the restaurants along Grand River. Farmington and Farmington Hills are two separate cities, and the names are often used interchangeably. It is worth knowing which one an address actually sits in.
